Großglockner Berglauf auch 2022 wieder Fixpunkt im WMRA Weltcup
For the 22nd time, the legendary Großglockner Mountain Run will magically attract sports fans from all over the world on July 10, 2022. For years, the race up the highest mountain in Austria has been one of the top events in international mountain running. Being part of the Mountain Running World Cup is confirmed by the World Mountain Running Federation. Currently, 300 starting places are still available.
Twelve races will form the WMRA (World Mountain Running Association) World Cup in 2022, and the Großglockner Berglauf is part of it. By becoming a World Cup, the mountain running world elite will be brought back to the sporting land of Carinthia. Also, amateur runners will be offered a unique ambience in Heiligenblut as every year. Organizer Julius Rupitsch is proud that the World Cup is hosted in Heiligenblut again: “The World Cup is an enhancement and recognition for the entire event. Likewise, the World Cup as a top sporting event enables planning security in times of pandemic.” According to the World Mountain Running Association rules, every amateur runner is automatically also a participant in the World Cup, which is held as an open competition.
Peter Kaiser, the head of the provincial sports department and governor of Carinthia, sees the major sports event as a fixed point in the Carinthian sports calendar. “The fact that the organization team around Julius Rupitsch has once again succeeded in being included in the World Cup calendar is proof that the Grossglockner Mountain Run is not only steeply uphill but also high up. I am looking forward to the best mountain runners in the world.”
For nature conservation reasons, the number of participants in the Großglockner Mountain Run has always been limited. The event will be sold out again in 2022. So anyone who wants to get hold of one of the 300 remaining entries must be quick.
